If you live in or visit the Elk Valley, you most likely have observed the extensive clear-cut logging that has been occurring throughout the valley. This clear-cut logging (cut down and remove every tree from an area) is happening on private land and and their logging policies are currently being reviewed by the government. Your input has been requested.

UBCM calls on Province to Regulate Private Land Logging
The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development is conducting a review of the Private Managed Forest Land Program (also known as the Managed Forest Program). The review is one of several policy reforms announced as part of the Coast Forest Sector Revitalization Initiative.
The review will examine how well the Private Managed Forest Land Program is meeting its goals to:
– encourage private landowners to manage their lands for long-term forest production, and
– encourage sustainable forest management practices, including the protection of key public environmental values.
See where the Private Managed Forest Land exists in the Elk Valley, it’s close to 70% of the valley.
In order to determine where the program is most effective, and if improvements are needed, the ministry wishes to understand the different views and concerns of all British Columbians. Input received from this engagement process is an important part of the ministry’s review of the program.
