Fernie Brewing Co. is ramping up for winter with high prospects of new tanks, a bursting at the seams storefront, recent feel good media coverage and a new seasonal release that will warm the cockles of even the coldest heart. Not to mention forthcoming festive frolicking and Santa’s imminent arrival of course.
To mark Fernie Brewing Co’s upcoming 10th Anniversary, they look forward to celebrating with a new limited release and decadent brew. Big, strong and well-aged, FBC’s Black Mammoth Winter Ale is set to be bottled next week, being immediately available in Fernie throughout the festive period and into the New Year, with those further afield having to wait just a few weeks longer to warm their cockles.
“Our most decadent brew yet – a rich, strong winter black ale. A healthy addition of chocolate malt, plus infusions of dark organic cocoa and curacao orange peel provide unique flavour. Extra aging on oak adds smoothness and complexity. Perfect for those special times. Endulge!” describes our Brewmaster, Gord Demaniuk.
Special times indeed, with January 2013 seeing Fernie Brewing Co. celebrating 10 years since the first beer left the building. And quite the 10 years it’s been. Originating in the Pask family barn, a hand-crafted, forward-thinking, craft brewery, brewed its way from a small-town dream to reality. From kegs, to cans, to bottles, to growlers and from BC to Alberta, FBC is as of a result an award-winning Brewery with its feet firmly planted on the Craft Beer map. Such appreciation by consumers, beer judges, bloggers and beer aficionados however has not gone unnoticed by FBC, who is eternally grateful for the unbridled support both locally and afar.
A recent article by freelance writer Matt J. Simmons featured in the December Issue of TAPS Magazine certainly brought home the reality of what both small-town Fernie and its Craft Brewery represents. As Simmons writes, “In a lot of ways, Fernie Brewing Company embodies the essence of the town around it: Industrious but still somehow laid back, hip and urban and funky, but in a small mountain-town kind of way. The kind of place you can wear gumboots and designer jeans at the same time.” FBC couldn’t agree more.
Along with new beers, new buildings and new tanks comes new merchandise. The FBC storefront is a sea of colour, with the old favourite “I’d Tap That!” T’s lining up against the new “The Griz Drinks It” and the long sought after “What the Huck” shirts, alongside trucker caps, toques and cozy hoodies. Whilst packaged product fresh off production, kegs to order and the “sustainably, scrumptious straightforward” 1.89L Growlers eagerly prepare themselves for the Christmas rush.
Quite simply, it’s like a stocking stuffer’s paradise where tricky decisions can easily be overcome by a cheeky sample or two. Or order a keg and be done with it. Throughout the festive period, the FBC Store will be open Monday to Friday 1-5PM, but closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Year’s Day.
