Fernie’s biking and hiking trails are mostly open and riding well. The weather has worked wonders in removing our above average snowpack quicker than last season.
The rivers are running full as a result and we’re hoping for no flooding. The kayakers and rafters are loving the high water! The river conditions are great for boating, the above image captures Jon Knauf of High Mountain Rafting running the Bull River.
The following image explains why the trails are clear and the rivers are running full. The blue line reflects this seasons snow-pack on Fernie’s Morrissey Ridge.
The upper alpine trails remain snow covered however all the lower trails are open with a few exceptions due to private land owner activities.
Fernie Trails Closures Advisory – Hyper Extension, Roots Extension & Resurrection
Hyper Extension, Roots Extension & Resurrection will be closed starting May 23rd for approximately 4-6 weeks due to logging. Canwel is the landowner and will be using River Road to haul. Please avoid using River Road and as an alternative use Montane to access the rest of the Castle trail network.
Fernie has over 300 km of fantastic trails to enjoy in the interim and these trails will return to our network. Updates will be provided as the logging proceeds. The pink area area in the following map represents where new logging will happen. Please respect the landowners and their operations.
