1) Rod and Gun Club Annual Fundraiser and Banquet
Council approved a funding request for the Fernie Rod and Gun Club in the amount of $1314.51 for support of their annual fundraiser and banquet to be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Fernie Memorial Arena.
The funding support will be provided from the Cultural and Heritage Tourism Development and Festivals component of the 2012 – 2016 Resort Development Strategy.
The event will bring approximately 200 out of town visitors to Fernie providing a definite boost to our local economy.
2) Intention to Dispose of City Property
Council authorized the Director of Leisure Services to advertise Council’s intention to dispose of City property via a Lease Agreement with the Fernie Creative Minds Preschool from September 1, 2012 to August 31, 2013.
The consideration to be received by the City for the proposed Lease is the sum of $7,534.68
This proposal is for an additional classroom in Mountview Centre (former Max Turyk School) located across the hall from the existing space they are currently renting.
After the requisite advertising, the Lease will return to Council for consideration of approval.
3) Elk Valley Society for Community Living – Summer Program for Children with Special Needs
Council approved a Grant in Aid to the Society for the Summer Program in the amount of $6500 to assist with the cost of running the program. This funding will be put towards the cost of renting space in the Mountview Centre and to help with admission costs for various programs offered at the Fernie Aquatic Centre.
4) Agreement between the City of Fernie and the Whistler Centre for Sustainability Society – Update the City of Fernie Official Community Plan. (OCP)
Council authorized the execution of the above noted Agreement to update the City of Fernie OCP.
This Agreement is in accordance with the City of Fernie OCP Update Work plan, with a fixed total budget for the Update set at $168,680.51 which includes HST and a 4% project management and contingency fee.
The Update will align the OCP with the City’s recently completed Integrated Community Sustainability Plan and integrate Smart Growth principles into the OCP. It will also include: an employment lands strategy; an updated OCP implementation framework coordinated with ICSP action planning; and a sustainable development checklist.
5) Allocation of Columbia Basin Trust Funds – Fernie 2012/2013
On April 11, 2012 Council heard presentations from community groups applying for funding under the Columbia Basin Trust Community Initiatives and Affected Areas program. At the Regular Meeting held April 23, 2012, Council ratified its funding allocations and recommended the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) endorse the funding levels as allocated by Council.
This recommendation has been forwarded to the RDEK for the Boards consideration. The Board will make the final funding decision at their June 8, 2012 Meeting

6) Bylaw No. 2184 cited as 2012-2016 Five Year Financial Plan Bylaw No. 2184 and Bylaw No. 2185, cited as 2012 Tax Rates Bylaw No. 2185 received first three readings from Council and will come back for consideration of adoption at the May 14th, 2012 Regular Meeting.

7) Telus Corporation
Council reviewed the April 19, 2012 letter from the Telus Corporation re: Telus investing $205,000 in Fernie in 2012 and will be extending an invitation to Mr. Steve Jenkins, General Manager with Telus to attend an upcoming Committee of the Whole Meeting to discuss Telus Service and redundancy plans for service continuity in the Fernie and Elk Valley area.
