What happened to that? Now we’re out promoting Service with no Boundaries and predicting high speed Elk chairs that have been talked about for eons?

Lots of different types of customers enjoyed the pipe last year. And they all spent money at the resort. And it is still something that people (not everyone, obviously) are still interested in, skiier and snowboarder alike.

I just think its a move in the wrong direction and I guess in the end I just don’t understand RCR’s reasoning. Instead of trying to improve things, they eliminate them. Closing other resorts, knocking down half pipes, promising new day lodges for 5 years and never delivering (although the fresh coat of orange paint is lovely)…

If one day down the road FAR stops pulling its weight, RCR may doze it too.

My point is that they are charging full price for a fraction of the services. And as for them losing money right now, they set Dec 10th as opening day regardless of snow conditions because last year when they opened in November, they lost money and they weren’t going to let that happen again. So even if there had been 6 feet of snow 3 weeks ago, they still wouldn’t have opened. They didn’t open for “you seasons pass holders”… It was the date that they chose themselves weeks/months ago so that they wouldn’t lose money like their first 2 weeks last year.

Also, the reason that there were only 125 people is because there’s no snow. I don’t think there’s lack of interest.

14 of 17 major ski hills in BC are currently open.

There are many resorts that offer discounted prices during early and late season because they have found that it attracts more people to come during those not so great seasonal times. Maybe if they tried that there would have been more than 125 people.

Its true that the pipe last year was horrible.

But if Fernie is trying to be a big-scale resort, where’s the super-pipe? And where are they getting the info that people won’t use it? Lots of people used it every day last year, even when it was in the worst of condition (most of the time).

Its crazy that they would do that… they should just make a better pipe instead of leveling it. Lots of people would use it.
