This Friday the 17th, when Emily races in the combined, the Brickhouse Bar and Grill will have Em’s favorite drink on special, The Frosty Olympian (Vanilla Stoli and Soda). Let’s all “cheers” to Emily and her accomplishments, where ever we are on the 15th, 17th and 19th.
Emily, you simply make me want to work harder!

ps. I know emily has Fernie.com as her home page so she most likely will be checkin’ all of these messages out!

Calgarians buying real estate in Fernie is NOT good for the real estate market, unless you are an agent. The are driving up the price of real estate, which in turn increases property taxes in the area because the value has gone up. This makes it difficult for the average person to buy a house at an affordable price.

This said, I am glad to see Calgarians moving to Fernie, even if just for the weekends. The local ski club, FAST, is comprised of many Calgarians. These parents come here every weekend, ski and bike the mountain, have dinner in town, etc. The majority of them are involved in the community and want to see it develop. For instance, the newest establishment in Fernie (The Brickhouse Bar and Grill and Phat CIty Lounge) is opening in a building that was purchased and renovated by a Calgarian Architect. What a contribution! Adding value to both historical Fernie and the entertainment scene!

Take control of the situation?? Sure, we’ll get right on that simple endeavor!

As someone who grew up in Fernie I know hard drugs have been a part of the scene for years and have had a few shocking experiences of my own.

It truly sucks when you realize that the town you deamed so pure and innocent is just as affected with drug use and dealing as any other little town, or city for that matter. Hopefully you also realize that your view was a bit unrealistic. The only thing you can control is yourself: you have a choice in friends and the option to be vocal about your beliefs. And hey, it’s Fernie. Those who truly love the town and live for the town will keep it real.
