slacklocalParticipant
RCR is always posting photos and videos of people out on the mountain before its open. So it seems they fully endorse it.
If you go out, make sure you don’t be an idiot like the people last year hiking up in a prime start zone right under the headwall.
Play it safe, go north ridge or something. Have fun, enjoy the snow! Look out for snowcats and sleds ripping around and get at it!
slacklocalParticipantBC Liberals
slacklocalParticipantwow. even with all those invalid signatures they still collected the minimum 10%. people sure hate the HST and the liberals who forced it down everyones throats behind closed doors.
maybe they are also pissed off about the billions of dollars of taxation that has been shifted from big business to individuals… hmmm.. that sounds like a bigger scam to me!
slacklocalParticipantactually wildsight has been around for over 20 years… its previous incarnation was the East Kootenay Environmental Society.
individuals that started wildsight have been fighting off oil and gas in the Flathead for even longer than that
slacklocalParticipantI only go to extra foods for basic items and the 50% off bin. I wouldn’t go there at all if it wasnt close to my house.
slacklocalParticipantUNESCO doesn’t have any say in anything. They can make reccomendations, but they aren’t binding.
Its up to the BC government to decide the fate of the Flathead… and without the pressures from Wildsight and UNESCO they would be mining there right now.
And I don’t believe that Wildsight said anything about snowmobiling and logging to UNESCO, they only raised concerns about mining.
You know you anti park folks sure water down your arguments by spreading mistruths. If you want to be taken seriously you should stick to the facts.
slacklocalParticipantyou seem to be misinformed on the Flathead issue mikes
My understanding is that wildsight is supporting a local decision on the Flathead. They want to see a feasibility study (which would consult with locals about if the park is feasible)
This approach is supported locally by the City of Fernie, the Regional District of the East Kootenay and the Ktunaxa.
slacklocalParticipanta good read for folks considering working at RCR
slacklocalParticipantha, just stumbled across this old thread.
Funny how when the tore the half pipe down they said it was to focus on the terrain park. Now today they have tore down the terrain park. To focus on what? their bottom line?
slacklocalParticipantI hope that people based their vote on something more than just the flathead issue. I know I voted for the Liberals on their record on the economy and supporting business.
slacklocalParticipantwell, i will flip that right back at you mikes. I’m sure wildsight has asked bill to "talk about it" and move forward with the parks canada feasibility study. And he hasn’t responded… or I think he did at one of the candidates forums. he said no, i don’t support a feasibility study. therefore not even wanting to talk about it. Why? he must be scared. if bill wants to hold a referendum, why doesn’t he hold a referendum? is he scared of the result?
anyhow, it wouldn’t make sense to hold a referendum on the park without first doing a feasibility study. maybe a park isn’t feasible… we won’t know until we do the study.
slacklocalParticipantthis argument that exploration is fine, it hardly ever leads to actual production is crazy. doesn’t make me very comfortable.
and someone mentioned that BP has no intention of drilling in the Flathead… well that is a misconception. Go to http://www.bp.com/liveassets/bp_interne … 50k_sm.pdf and check out their project maps. They all include the flathead still. And the BC government’s own documents state that BP may be allowed to apply for drilling rights in the flathead in the future.
Why don’t you get over the fact that wildsight supports one thing that you don’t and support them in their other initiatives, their bigger goals. Like actually changing the land use plan to stop mining and oil and gas in the Flathead.
slacklocalParticipantit seems to me that the reasonable way forward on this long standing issue is to move forward with the parks canada feasibility study. Then a discussion can take place instead of this stupid YES NO fight that has no way of ever resolving itself.
The Regional District of the East Kootenay, The City of Fernie and the Ktunaxa have all agreed to move forward with the feasibility study. They were clear that this was not supporting the creation of the park when they supported the feasibility study. They were just being reasonable and saying that, hey, we should have a discussion about this. Unlike the Keast Kootenay Residents Land Use Coalition, BC Wildlife Hunting Federation and Bill Bennett who are being very childish and saying "no, we don’t even want to take about it"
