hey landed, i’d have to agree with mikes assessment of fernie’s organised nightlife. add in a couple of ghostriders games and you’ve pretty much got it covered. if nightlife is THE deciding factor in your choice then you’re better off heading to whistler or banff, but then you end up with wetter snow (whistler), more rocks and ice (banff), and way more people on the runs (both). fernie offers an awesome hill that’s close to town, and a great annual average snowfall. the people are super friendly too. it’s important also to remember that fernie is way more than just a resort. sure there’s lots of people who live there for the skiing, riding, paddling etc, but there’s also loads of great people who hardly ever (or never) ski. i’m sure you’d have a great time there, even though it’s quieter than st anton (most places are). it all comes down to what’s important to you. and of course you’ll always find folks like snowsnake, but there’s plenty of them in austria too. he’d probably fit in well there.
