WestJet announced they are bypassing Cranbrook airport in their expansion plans. Namaimo and Fort St. John were two B.C. cities included in the new expanded carrier service.
This is surprising given that Westjet’s largest shareholder is Murry Edwards, sole owner of RCR Resorts—the holding company for Fernie Alpine Resort, Kimberley Alpine Resort and Kicking Horse Resort.
Edwards is a tar-sands tycoon from Calgary and is rumoured to have his BC resorts for sale. There could be a connection or be a sign of the future with a possible NDP government coming this May. We can expect loads of right-wing conservative investors to depart with the fear of fiscal collapse brought on by the left-wing NDP’ers.
WestJet is currently taking delivery of the first new 78 seat Q-400 turboprops and perhaps in the fall, the East Kootenay’s could make the list and have a new carrier service.
Perhaps?
