      The Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) currently has a job opportunity for a Web Developer. The CAC is a non-government, not-for-profit organization established to serve as Canada?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s national public avalanche safety organization. Our website is one of our principal means to communicate timely avalanche conditions and safety information to the public. Thus, keen attention to detail is required to correctly input new and updated content to ensure accurate information is provided to the public.

      This job posting will remain open until 4pm on April 29, 2011. A benefit package is offered to qualifying employees. Full time hours are expected in the winter season with summer hours being flexible.

      The Web Developer is a technical position with responsibilities that will include design, development, maintenance, administration and support for the Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) and Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) websites. Other job responsibilities include:
      ensuring both the CAA and CAC websites are maintained to corporate design standards; developing content and design of the website, including management of the specific content for the site; monitoring the site to ensure accuracy of information. database management as it relates to the site; performing user technical support; collection and summary of website statistics to monitor use of website; performing other duties as required.

      A successful candidate will be highly rated on the following qualifications:
      Possess a minimum of two years web development experience, including web design, development, maintenance, administration and support; Microsoft .NET Development experience including the ability to perform troubleshooting tasks;
      – C# language Ability to set up queries in SQL 2000 (SQL 2005 an asset) ability to manage linked databases; Experience with subversion source control; Experience with the use of XML technologies, including:
      – Using xml files to transfer information between the user interface and complex database structures
      – Knowledge of schemas and ability to extract information from XML files Experience with HTML websites featuring extensive use of CSS style sheets;

      Experience with social media sites and dynamic interlinking of information between them (Facebook, Twitter etc?¢‚Ǩ¬¶); Knowledge of Internet Information System ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú ability to perform monitoring and maintenance of IIS; FTP knowledge including creation of FTP scripts; Experience with web commerce applications including needs assessment, product selection and implementation; Knowledge of the avalanche community and industry an asset; Ability to work independently.
