I want a real estate agent to lead this town. As I see it, having an experienced individual in the real estate business and more specifically the Fernie real estate market, as our mayor, is of great interest. Considering the amount of new development in our town it would put my mind at ease knowing that someone with considerable knowledge on the topic would be playing a major role in the decisions being made. I would imagine it is very easy for developers to convince an inexperienced person that any given project is a good idea. After all, that is what they do for a living. It should also be noted that McSkimming has sat on council for numerous years now without any major conflict and as far as I know he hasn?Ç‚Äôt miraculously become a billionaire.
Beyond McSkimming?Ç‚Äôs real estate background, I think it is also worth pointing out his small business background. This is a man who has managed to stay in business in Fernie for 25 years. For those of you that were around back then, I?Ç‚Äôm sure you can see how this is no small feat. Back then, Fernie was a ?Ç‚Äúblink and you?Ç‚Äôll miss it?Ç‚Äù kind of town. No great economy, no fancy buildings, no fast food, no tourists. Businesses, then and now, have tried and failed. Somehow Mr. McSkimming kept his business in operation through all of that, surviving when even corporations had failed (Anyone remember Countrystyle?). That says a lot about his abilities.
Should a mayor benefit from his position, I say good for him. He is doing us all a great service and deserves a piece of the pie. -

What kind of person wrote this? "A piece of the pie", he says. I actually laughed out loud.
Is that what this comes down to for you- the guy has had a business here in Fernie for awhile and for doing so he deserves the keys to the town??
I am dismayed by your lack of logical process during this most crucial of times.
The new mayor needs to actually listen to the people of this town, not just act like it. No fakers please. -

Haha, I like the part about blinka nd you’ll miss it! Many people still do…still doesn’t have the greatest economy or sustainablity, and haha, still no fast foos restuarants. Let’s see, how many bars shut down last spring, and now how many fast food restaurants. Things are slowing down in Fernie. And a real estate agent can’t make a difference to that…the US, Canada, everywhere is starting to feel the pain.

We have 2 options. Cindy or Dan. If I could pick anybody at all it wouldn’t be either of them. So feel free to let us all know why we should vote Cindy over Dan.

Well our new Mayor has proclaimed she is bringing back a more business like attitude to Council. All councilors will be required to wear jacket and ties to council meetings. That will solve our problems. Hello !!!!!! the 50’s are over !

I heard that too and laughed. Did anyone ever hear about a Saskatchewan major who pulled a similar thing….everyone who was to come see him had to be wearing a tie or dressed appropriately?! The kicker, the mayor also owned a local men’s suit / clothing store. It was all over the news all over the country! It was such a riot!
