Another Christmas morning opening the gifts, realizing that Jolly fat man (I really don’t care if you beleive Opra brings you peace and love) forgot the right size batteries.
This made me think to myself, How many Christmas’s can I remember in which batteries were required as the bottom of the stocking stuffer.
All of them. If it weren’t for the universal remote, the walk/discman, the mp3 player, the digital Yatzee game, and the latest item, The Electronic Dart Board, These battery companies must be laughing the whole way to the bank.
One year I gave everyone in my family houseplants. I thought it was a great gift cause the plants themselves can be kept for life and require little maintenance (the odd glass of water here and there).
This year I did Calendars. Thoughtful gift wishing everyone a well organized year. Next year I’m thinking rechargeable batteries.
At an adverage of $2 each the adverage life in a battery is probably six months. So most remote controlls cost about eight bucks a year just to keep flipping through channels and adjusting volume. You would think that by this time in technological advancement, we would be able to buy one battery for a applliance and have it last forever. But I guess if they did, we wouldn’t be buying as many two packs for five bucks.
