      Position Duration – 12 weeks @ 35 hours/week starting June 13 to August 31, 2011

      Wage Rate – $14.00 per hour

      Skills and Abilities: Be innovative, flexible, and motivated
      Be proficient in Microsoft Office, digital media, and use of the Internet;
      Communicate ideas in a clear and compelling manner, both verbally and in writing, with
      demonstrated skill in written communications;
      Organized and detail oriented, with an ability to handle shifting priorities;
      Follow through independently on routine responsibilities;
      Work effectively with museum visitors, members, volunteers and staff
      Background Research and Orientation: Fundamental to the success of the Assistant
      Curator is an understanding of the history of the City of Fernie and the surrounding area. This
      research will be conducted using published sources and existing materials developed by the
      Fernie Museum.

      Exhibit Production: This will be a significant part of the position which will involve developing
      content for our exhibit – The Power of Place – Ski Hill Memories which will celebrate the 50th
      anniversary of the ski hill in 2012. Work will include collecting historical images and artifacts;
      soliciting, conducting and recording oral histories of people’s memories and experiences on
      video as content for the exhibit.

      Photographic Documentation: The photographic documentation of our town is as important
      as the recording of our community memories. This includes not only the physical landscape of
      Fernie which is changing quickly and dramatically, but also of community activities. The
      Assistant Curator using the Society’s digital and video cameras will record and document
      these events.

      Staffing the Museum: Working with the Curator, the Assistant Curator will be responsible for
      the execution, design and installation of exhibits and displays in the Museum as well as
      receiving, recording and responding to enquiries in a professional manner
      Collections Management: The Fernie Museum maintains collections of artefacts, images and
      archival material relating to the human and natural history of Fernie and the Elk Valley. The
      management of this material is essential to the long term success of the Museum.
