      With people coming from all over looking to rent in Fernie and people from all over renting homes in Fernie everyone needs to be aware of the rental laws in BC. It is illegal to ask for first and last months rent as a damage deposit. The security deposit can be no more than half of the monthly rent. Be informed! Go to http://www.rto.gov.bc.ca/

      What can ya do though? With the rental market so tight there is always someone willing to pay whatever it takes, and i’m sure if you bring this up with a prospective landlord there is no chance they will rent to you. It’s very sad to see how greedy people become when they know they can get away with it.

      you can ask for first and last months rent if its a seasonal rental, if your place is and i highly recommen listing as seasonal you do not realy fall under the BC rental act…… :twisted:

      Examples of GREED in this valley are no different than Western society as a whole.

      With RBC stating that homes are 50% overvalued in Western Canada we could see our materialists cake crumble. So sad, boo hoo!

      I think it would befor the better if prices were to crash , we need some new people in this town , the prices have locked all the good people out….

      If you don’t like the rental conditions here, don’t come. take it or leave it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Or stay at the local hostals and reck there places.

      Looks like Harley the wannabe needs to go back to school. I hope this redneck mentality isn’t typical of Fernie residents!
