Victoria – in the SE of Australia is in a state of natural disaster as bush fires rage. So far the death toll is at 93 and rising, entire villages have been wiped out and the fires still burn.

The temperature rose to 46.4 deg C in the City of Melbourne and winds of up to 110km/pH fueled over 400 fires burning across Victoria over the weekend. The town of Maysville a beautiful alpine village somewhat like Fernie was perhaps one of the hardest hit – only one hotel now stands along it’s main road. It’s devastating.

For more info The Age (newspaper) has quite good coverage

Fernie being home to so many expats from Aus – I thought it would be nice to see what we can do as a community to assist those in Victoria, especially those in the towns of Marysville and King Lake who have lost so much.

A Bushfire Appeal Fund has been started in an effort to assist the communities and individuals who have been affected by the fires. The Bushfire Appeal Fund can be accessed through the Red Cross at…
