RDEK Electoral Area A relies on volunteers who give their time, skills, and energy to strengthen their communities, and nominations are now open for the RDEK Electoral Area A Volunteers of the Year Awards. Residents are invited to recognize individuals who make a meaningful difference through their voluntary contributions, often without recognition or expectation of reward.

The awards honour volunteers whose efforts positively impact the spirit, culture, and people of Electoral Area A. Volunteerism takes many forms—both highly visible and behind the scenes—and the Regional District of East Kootenay is encouraging residents to nominate those who consistently help make Area A a better place to live.

Nominees must be full-time residents of an RDEK Electoral Area and must not reside within an incorporated municipality. Eligible volunteers should demonstrate unpaid contributions that benefit their community or the broader area.

Last year’s Electoral Area A Volunteer of the Year, Rose Mary Brydon, was recognized for her longstanding dedication and positive impact, setting a strong example of the community spirit these awards are designed to celebrate.

Nominations can be submitted online at engage.rdek.bc.ca/volunteer, with the deadline set for February 2, 2026, at 12:00 pm. Paper nomination forms are also available through the RDEK office for residents without computer access. Those submitting nominations are encouraged to include as much detail as possible about the nominee’s contributions and accomplishments.

Residents are encouraged to help recognize and celebrate the individuals who go above and beyond, reinforcing the volunteer spirit that helps define RDEK Electoral Area A.
