Skijoring: The Wildest Winter Sport on the Rise
What started as a backcountry way to get a winter fix has exploded into a full-throttle competition across ski towns and rodeo hubs alike. Picture this:
• Skiers and snowboarders gripping a rope behind galloping horses
• Jumps, berms, gates, and flying obstacles demanding skill & guts
• Speed, power, and chaos as riders battle for the fastest time
At Ponies & Planks Skijoring, 50 teams (one horse rider + one skier/snowboarder) will go head-to-head in high-speed, high-energy races to claim the title of Fernie’s fastest skijoring team.
Racing for a Cause: Supporting Freedom Equine Association
While the competition is fierce, the heart of Ponies & Planks Skijoring is community impact. Proceeds from the event help remove financial barriers for individuals who can benefit from equine-assisted therapy.
Through therapeutic horseback riding & equine-assisted learning, Freedom Equine Association provides essential mental health and wellness programs to youth, individuals with disabilities, and those facing personal challenges.
