Elk Valley Field House Society representatives Antony McElwee, Bill Phillips, and Aysha Haines accept a $10,000 donation

Peacock Hospitality has donated $10,000 to the Elk Valley Field House Society, supporting plans to build an indoor recreation facility in Fernie.

The company, which owns and operates the Evergreen Apartments and Fernie Fox Hotel, says the donation reflects its commitment to Fernie and the grassroots organizations that help make the community a vibrant place to live, work and play.

“We want to thank Peacock Hospitality for this generous donation,” said Aysha Haines, spokesperson for the Elk Valley Field House Society. “Support from local businesses is crucial as we move this project forward.”

Peacock Hospitality has provided more than $150,000 in direct community support through sponsorships, donations and its community grant program in recent years.

The company has also introduced environmental improvements at its properties, including solar panels, heat pumps in residential units and automated control systems in commercial spaces.

Elk Valley Resources launched the Field House fundraising campaign with a $1-million contribution in 2025.

The project has also received:
$525,000 in Resort Municipality Initiative funding supported by the City of Fernie
$500,000 from Columbia Basin Trust
$40,000 from Tourism Fernie
$10,000 from the Fernie Volleyball Club
$10,000 from Fernie Youth Soccer

The society reached lease and operating agreements with the City of Fernie late last year. The 60-year lease allows the volunteer-led organization to build and operate an accessible indoor space for physical activity, social interaction, community events and gatherings.

Under the operating agreement, the Field House will primarily be used for recreation and community events. The society will be responsible for operating, cleaning, maintaining and repairing the facility.
