Fernie knows how to Celebrate Canada Day right—and this year, the celebration felt especially meaningful.
At a time when questions of national sovereignty, economic security, and cross-border pressures are top of mind, there’s something powerful about seeing neighbours gather to recognize what it means to be Canadian. Fernie’s Canada Day wasn’t about flashy displays or big-city spectacle, it was all about community spirit, local traditions, and the simple joy of coming together in our mountain town.

Families filled 2nd Avenue for the events, children enjoyed crafts and games in the park, and live music filled the summer air. The first Mountain Market of the season also added to the festive atmosphere, offering a wonderful selection of arts, crafts, and fresh BC-grown vegetables and fruit. It was the perfect showcase of local creativity and the bounty of our region, giving Canada Day an even richer, community-focused feel.

Local service clubs, volunteers, and businesses ensured the day ran smoothly, proving once again that Fernie’s greatest strength lies in its cooperative spirit. From family-friendly activities to local food and music, the celebration reminded us that our true strength is in looking out for one another.

This year, Canada Day carried an extra layer of significance. In a world where international tensions can spill over into trade threats or environmental disputes—even with our closest neighbour—taking time to celebrate our own values and community feels especially important. Fernie’s Canada Day was a quiet but unmistakable affirmation of who we are: welcoming, resilient, and proudly Canadian.
Thanks to everyone who helped organize and participate in this year’s festivities. Once again, Fernie showed that no matter what challenges come our way, this town knows how to celebrate what truly matters.
Happy Canada Day, Fernie!
