Fernie Brewing Co.’s cauld rons are all of a bubble this Fall. But aiming to tickle your taste buds rather than send you screaming through the halls, they’ve replaced eye of newt and toe of frog, with the more familiar and popular aromas of organic pumpkin and seasonal spices.  The result is pretty darn tasty.

Their new and Limited Edition Pumpkin Brown Ale stems from the infamous First Trax Brown Ale, but is instead brewed with organic pumpkins, cinnamon, nutmeg and numerous spices to create a deliciously smooth and tasty accompaniment to your favourite seasonal dish.  Resulting in a brew fit for any beer connoisseur, or your average turkey aficionado.

But where did Pumpkin Head grow from?  An organic farm in Osoyoos to be precise.  Then they added two keen Brewers, a whole lot of passion to try something new and something to match the season of Fall, which speaks for itself really – warm, rich and dark.  The Fernie Brewing Company family pulled together – sourcing fresh organic pumpkins, picking the perfect name, not to mention buying Fernie out of every spice and then some.

Paul wistfully recollects how the idea came about, “as the mornings got cooler and the beautiful backdrop of Fernie turned to a kaleidoscope of Fall colours, the crew at FBC started dreaming of Thanksgiving feasting and of course a beverage to accompany the time.  Quickly dismissing a turkey beer, thoughts of something spicier came to mind.  And Pumpkin Head was born.  A smooth brown ale, with light spices and of course, pumpkin”.  We think they hit the nail on the head.

Is your mouth watering yet?  If so, now is the time to get your hands on a few bottles of the good stuff to wash down your turkey dinner.  It can be found on tap and in 650ml bottles in Fernie, BC and at a number of locations in the East Kootenays.  But this truly is a small batch beer, so stocks are limited!  And of course, if you do miss out, we can recommend a number of other FBC products to help you celebrate the season in style, from our Rocky Mountain Lager, Griz Pale Ale and First Trax Brown Ale in cans, or our What the Huck – Huckleberry Wheat and O’ Willy Wit – Belgian White Ale in 650ml bottles.
