Fernie Alpine Resort

Fernie Alpine Resort (FAR) is set to open for skiers and snowboarders this Friday, marking the start of an exciting winter season. Recent snowstorms have blanketed the area with nearly 100 cm of fresh snow in the past week, 250 cm this season, allowing the resort to anticipate opening all lifts. For the latest updates on open runs and available services, visitors are encouraged to check the Snow Report and Mountain Cams page.

FAR has officially announced that they will with all lifts spinning (except Polar Peak) with prime conditions!

Enhancements have been made to the Griz Bar, a beloved après-ski destination. The carpentry team has revitalized the front section, replacing the solarium, opening up the interior, and leveling the floor to create a more spacious and welcoming atmosphere. These improvements aim to elevate the guest experience while preserving the bar’s renowned charm.

Terrain modifications have been undertaken to improve accessibility and the overall skiing experience. Area Manager Mark Ormandy explains that the unique geological features of the valley have historically presented steep sections across the resort’s five bowls. Recent efforts have focused on linking beginner and intermediate runs from the upper to the lower mountain, benefiting both guests and grooming teams. Notable enhancements include:

Falling Star / Hells Gate: Widened and reworked for improved flow and accessibility, transforming it into a premier groomed run.

Gilmar Trail / Lower Barracuda: Smoothed and resurfaced to enhance early-season skiing and snowboarding.

Siberia Ridge: Entry from Deep Sea has been widened and regraded for more inviting access.

Dancer / Lower Cascade: Grading work completed to allow earlier snowcat access, providing guests with earlier season availability.

Mark Ormandy, originally from New Zealand, chose to reside in Fernie for its vibrant community, excellent dining options, and abundant natural beauty. He highlights Snake Ridge in Cedar Bowl as a favorite on powder days and enjoys quick laps in Lizard Bowl during lunch breaks.

The resort team is eager for visitors to experience the recent upgrades and the exceptional conditions that await this season.
