The Emily Brydon Youth Foundation (EBYF) has long been one of the Elk Valley’s most impactful charitable organizations, providing financial support that enables local youth to pursue their passions in sports, education, and the arts. Founded by Fernie Olympian Emily Brydon, the foundation operates on a simple belief: every child deserves the opportunity to experience, dream, and grow—regardless of their family’s financial situation.
Each year, the demand for support increases. In the past year alone, the EBYF processed over 220 applications from families in Fernie, Elkford, Sparwood, and surrounding communities. Since 2006, the foundation has:
• Invested more than $1,000,000 directly into youth programs
• Supported over 70 organizations across the Elk Valley
• Expanded its outreach to ensure access for families facing financial hardship
The foundation provides grants for a wide range of activities, including sports registration fees, school clubs, tutors, adventure camps, and creative arts programs. Applications can be made online through the EBYF website, and support is available to any youth residing in the Elk Valley.
12 Days of Christmas: A Critical Annual Fundraiser
As the holiday season approaches, the EBYF is preparing for its annual 12 Days of Christmas fundraiser—a cornerstone of the foundation’s ability to meet its yearly commitments. With a $120,000 budget to deploy in 2025, this event is essential to ensuring that the EBYF can continue supporting local families throughout the year.
This year’s fundraising goal is $35,000, raised through the online auction and the much-loved Cheesemas community event.
Cheesemas: Cheese, Wine, and Community Spirit
A signature part of the campaign, Cheesemas, brings the community together for an evening of:
• Freshly cut cheeses from giant wheels
• Raclette and tastings
• Wine sampling
• Socializing and celebrating the incredible generosity within the Elk Valley
A special thank-you goes to Bridgeland Market, the sponsor behind Cheesemas and an enthusiastic supporter of the foundation.
Community Support Makes It Possible
The EBYF extends heartfelt appreciation to the donors, volunteers, and business owners who make its work possible. “We simply couldn’t do what we do without them,” commented Emily, emphasizing the community-driven nature of its programs.
A major thank-you also goes to Elk Valley Resources (EVR), this year’s Title Sponsor, whose contribution is pivotal to the success of the campaign.
The online auction page for the 12 Days of Christmas campaign will go live soon at: givergy.com/EBYF2025
As the EBYF enters another season of giving, the foundation remains committed to its mission: to create opportunities for youth in the Elk Valley to experience, dream, and learn.
