Avalanche Canada

Elk Valley Resources and Avalanche Canada today announced a $500,000 donation by EVR to support Avalanche Canada’s operations, including the South Rockies field team.

The South Rockies field team gathers snowpack data that is used to produce daily avalanche forecasts for the South Rockies and Lizard Range/Flathead regions during the winter months, found at avalanche.ca or on the Avalanche Canada app. Team members are also instrumental in advancing avalanche safety across the region by talking to users at trailheads, community events, and out in the mountains, as well as providing expertise and timely information through their widely followed social media accounts.

“We are proud to support Avalanche Canada and the critical work they do to help keep backcountry users safe while enjoying the outdoors,” said Mike Carrucan, CEO, EVR. “The South Rockies field team and the work they do is an invaluable resource for everyone in the Elk Valley and beyond.”

With this funding, Avalanche Canada can maintain its field team presence, and continue providing free, robust avalanche forecasts, outreach programs, and digital tools that empower outdoor enthusiasts to make informed decisions in the backcountry, no matter their experience or mode of travel.

“Partnerships like this allow Avalanche Canada to enhance the safety of the residents and visitors recreating in this area,” says Avalanche Canada Executive Director Gilles Valade. “EVR’s generous support is essential to maintaining our strong presence in the South Rockies region for years to come, which has a direct impact on our ability to deliver timely, accurate information to the public. Many of EVR’s employees and their families are avid winter backcountry enthusiasts and this demonstrates their commitment to getting them home safely.”

Today’s announcement reinforces EVR’s commitment to safety and community well-being in the Elk Valley by supporting public avalanche safety.
