Non-profit organizations are at the heart of community life in the Columbia Basin, and the Columbia Basin Trust is once again stepping up to support their growth and sustainability with Non-Profit Workshops. This fall, the Trust is offering a series of in-person workshops and online webinars designed to help non-profits, their staff, and volunteers build capacity, sharpen skills, and strengthen their impact.
Building Stronger Volunteer Programs
One highlight is Recruiting and Retaining Great Volunteers: Strategies That Work, an interactive workshop in Sparwood. Participants will learn practical tools for strengthening volunteer programs—whether that means building a base of new helpers or re-energizing an existing team. While the focus is on volunteerism, the session will also explore practices for recruiting and retaining staff. The workshop is in Sparwood and is ideal for non-profit staff, volunteer coordinators, board members, and community organizers.
Strengthening Boards and Leadership
In Kimberley, the Non-Profit Board Success workshop will help board members and leaders clarify roles and responsibilities, improve governance, and boost board engagement. A strong, informed board is essential for long-term organizational effectiveness, and this session will provide actionable strategies to make that happen.
Planning for the Future
Non-profits can attend Ten Steps to Successful Strategic Planning in Creston. The session will cover how to prepare for planning, set achievable goals, and bring the right voices to the table. Participants are encouraged to bring their own organization’s plan for real-time feedback.

Managing Resources Wisely
The Trust is also offering an Asset Management workshop designed especially for smaller non-profits. This hands-on session will explore how organizations can use asset management to inform budgeting, guide strategic planning, and ensure long-term sustainability. By learning to make evidence-based decisions about facilities, equipment, and other resources, participants will be better equipped to balance mission-driven goals with financial realities. Online webinar.
Tackling Challenges with Confidence
Alongside in-person events, several webinars will address common challenges faced by non-profits. Difficult Conversations for Non-profits will provide strategies for approaching sensitive topics with clarity and compassion, while Financial Management for Non-profits—led by CPA Fletcher FitzGibbon—will cover budgeting, reading financial reports, and setting realistic financial goals. Online webinar.
Supporting Community Capacity
Through its Non-profit Advisors Program and workshop series, the Columbia Basin Trust continues to invest in the strength of the region’s non-profits. By offering practical training and expert-led sessions, the Trust is helping ensure that organizations across the Basin remain resilient, sustainable, and well-equipped to serve their communities.
