The City of Fernie has announced the recipients of its 2026 Discretionary Grants, providing $8,000 in funding to local organizations that deliver programs, services, and community benefits in Fernie.
The Discretionary Grants program is designed to support grassroots initiatives that strengthen community well-being, recreation, education, and social inclusion.
2026 Discretionary Grant Recipients:
Cycling Without Age Fernie Foundation – $2,000 – Funding will support free trishaw rides for seniors and individuals with limited mobility, covering annual insurance costs that allow the program to operate safely.
Elk River Watershed Alliance – $2,000 – Funds will help expand youth education programming focused on watershed awareness and stewardship in Fernie.
Elk Valley Rugby Football Club – $1,500 – Funding will support the annual Rucking in the Rockies rugby festival.

Ghostrider Adventure Camp Foundation – $1,500 – Funds will provide two at-risk children with the opportunity to attend a one-week residential camp at no cost.
New for 2026, the City has updated its Discretionary Grants policy to better reflect community needs. Changes include:
• Two grant intakes per year, instead of one
• Updated eligibility criteria, allowing for greater flexibility in funding requests
The next intake opens in March 2026, with $9,000 available. Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2026.
The Discretionary Grants program is funded through the City’s annual budget, which is approved by City Council as part of its budgeting and five-year financial planning process. Grant funding is supported by municipal revenues, including local tax dollars, and is guided by Council’s strategic priorities.
More information about eligibility and application details will be available through the City of Fernie ahead of the March intake.
