B.C.’s Environmental Assessment Office is asking for public feedback on its proposed expedited environmental assessment process — a change that could significantly impact major projects in the Elk Valley.

For communities like Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford, this matters. Projects such as the Fording River Extension (Castle Project) depend on a regulatory system that delivers clear, timely decisions while maintaining strong environmental standards. Delays create uncertainty for workers, families and local businesses that rely on mining’s economic stability.

An expedited process is not about weakening oversight — it is about improving efficiency so responsible projects can move forward without unnecessary delays.

The province is inviting feedback until April 13.
