The red carpet was rolled out Saturday, September 28th for the return of the 2nd Annual Fernie Film Festival at The Pub Bar and Grill in the Park Place Lodge. It was standing room only in The Pub as hundreds turned out to see this year’s crop of films from local talent.

This year the festival was opened with the showing of the winning film and the people’s choice film from last year. Then six new films were screened. Film styles ran the gamut from family outings to extreme sports with plenty to choose from in between. Several of the films were obviously shot over the course of the previous year, others focused on several days of a specific trip.

Organizer Scott Gilmet said the key to the event was, “Focusing on the entertainment side.”

Contributing to the entertainment spirit of the evening were a limousine dropping judges and sponsors at the end of a red carpet out front and spectators and film-makers dressed up in faux Hollywood style.

Gilmet thanked local sponsors who contributed hundreds of dollars in cash and prizes and said, “Look forward to bigger and better next year. We may look at holding some workshops to make it easier for locals to submit films. And there may be a broader scope next year.”

So get your cameras out and start burning film!
