The Fernie Trails and Ski Touring Club (FTSTC) has announced the recipients of its 2026 Avalanche Bursary Program, awarding a total of $2,500 to support avalanche education and training in the Elk Valley. Now in its second decade, the program has provided more than $25,000 in funding to help advance avalanche safety and backcountry knowledge across the region.
“This program supports people who want to learn more about avalanches and decision-making in winter terrain,” said FTSTC President Magnus Leckenby.
The recipients reflect the diversity of avalanche education pathways in the Elk Valley, including recreational backcountry users, youth participants, and developing avalanche professionals.

Tamika Green — $500
Megan Henderson — $500
Lenaya Vesely — $500
Corbin Hus — $250
Olivia Johnson — $250
The Avalanche Bursary Program has been in place for more than a decade and has awarded over $25,000 to date in support of avalanche education in the Elk Valley.
Applications for the 2027 Avalanche Bursary Program will open on September 1, with a submission deadline of November 30. A
