The Fernie Snowmobile Association was honoured to present Tourism Fernie and the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Area A the British Columbia Snowmobile Federation (BCSF) Excellence Award for Tourism Promotion and Development.

Both organizations have played integral roles in the success of snowmobiling in Fernie, most recently through their support of the completion of the Snowmobile Economic Impact Study and emergency funding to repair flood damage to recreation trails.

The BCSF Excellence Award is given each year to a tourism association or organization that has shown outstanding innovation and achievement in the development and implementation of a snowmobile tourism program or original initiative that, has resulted in positive media recognition or increased participation from snowmobilers and/or non-snowmobilers. The net result is a contribution to increasing the image and exposure of snowmobiling and the growth of the sport in that area, region, or community. In so doing, the recipient must have demonstrated a willingness to work closely with members of the organized snowmobiling community.

The Fernie Snowmobile Association thanks Jikke Gyorki, Tourism Fernie Executive Director, and Mike Sosnowski, Area A Director, RDEK, for their notable efforts toward supporting organized snowmobiling and winter recreation opportunities in the community.
