The City of Fernie decided at last evenings council meeting that the City will apply to fund a new multi purpose community centre. Council opted for Option A estimated at close to $80 million.

Carscadden Stokes McDonald Architects spokesman Glen Stokes presented two options. The chosen design, Option A, features a 1200-seat arena with six change rooms, a walking track, a curling rink with four sheets and an 11,200 sq ft gym. Option B offers a 600-seat arena, four change rooms and an 8400 sq ft gym, and an estimated cost of $69.6 million.

Following a lengthy debate council directed staff to initiate the grant application including adjusting the financial plan and a loan authorization bylaw.
