Delicious organic chocolate helps wildlife, water, rare plants AND chocoholics

Every year, Denman Island Chocolate donates one per cent of its gross sales to local conservation groups. The company, Canada’s first to promote exclusively organic chocolate bars, also partners with environmental organizations on crucial campaigns.

Flathead Wild is one such campaign. Led by Wildsight, Sierra Club and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, the campaign is working to protect the Flathead Valley in southeastern B.C.

Denman Island Chocolate created the “Flathead Wild” chocolate bar to support the goals of the campaign, and it’s now available in stores across the region.

“We’re grateful for Denman Island Chocolate’s help,” said Robyn Duncan, Wildsight’s Southern Rockies program coordinator. “There are two goals that still need to be met for the Flathead River Valley to be protected over the long-term: the creation of a national park, and the legislation of a wildlife management area in the southern B.C. Rockies.

“Every bar that sells helps us keep going to reach these goals.”

Denman Island Chocolate owner Daniel Terry said, “The Flathead is a Noah’s Ark for rare and threatened species like tailed frogs and grizzly bears, and Denman Island Chocolate is proud to be part of a growing movement to protect this special place of ours.”
The chocolate bar wrapper features a photograph of mountain goats taken last summer during a RAVE (Rapid Assessment Visual Expedition) by Joe Riis of the International League of Conservation Photographers.

The bars—organic dark chocolate—will be sold throughout B.C. at select retailers.
In the East Kootenay, they are carried by several stores, but, being Denman Island Chocolate, they do tend to sell out quickly.
