The Griz received his annual offering of a substantial brain-cell sacrifice with the annual Mogul Smoker event, and locals are now expecting an abundance of snow in return. Ah, the annual Mogul Smoker—one fine Fernie tradition where skis are burned and intoxicating drinks known as “Mogul Smokers” (a blend of rum, Kahlúa, coffee, and hot chocolate) are consumed in enthusiastic quantities. Every year, those who partake are reminded just how much kick the drink delivers.
This 30-year tradition has a strong track record. Expect a sudden shift in the weather… and perhaps the ski hill opening right on schedule.
