The TransRockies Race Series is making a celebrated return to Fernie with the launch of the Fernie Singletrack 3 (FST3) — a new three-day mountain bike stage race set for June 26–28, 2026.
The event marks a full-circle moment for TransRockies, returning to the community where North American mountain bike stage racing was born. From 2002 to 2014, Fernie hosted the legendary TransRockies Challenge and later several stages of Singletrack 6. Now, after two decades of race production experience, TransRockies is once again bringing riders from around the world to experience Fernie’s world-class trails.
“Fernie has always been at the heart of the TransRockies story,” said Aaron McConnell, President of TransRockies. “It’s where mountain bike stage racing found its home in North America, and we’re thrilled to return with a fresh, world-class experience that celebrates the trails, the community, and the adventure that defines Fernie.”
Three Days of Epic Riding
The Fernie Singletrack 3 will welcome both pro and amateur riders, with Miner (long) and Prospector (short) distance options designed to balance fun, flow, and challenge. Over three days, participants will explore the diversity of Fernie’s trail systems — from alpine ridgelines to lush valley singletrack.
Stage highlights include:
Stage 1: South-side trails in Ridgemont and Montane, featuring classic flow and Lizard Range views.
Stage 2: A point-to-point adventure from Sparwood to Fernie via the Elk Valley Trail.
Stage 3: A park-side finale at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre, showcasing technical terrain and rewarding descents.
Community, Culture, and Trail Stewardship
True to TransRockies tradition, riders and spectators will unwind each day at “Chillville”, a festival-style basecamp returning to Fernie. For 2026, Chillville will be hosted at the Montane Barn, beside the new Coal Creek Camping and RV, creating the perfect hub for riding, recovery, and celebration.
The event is presented in partnership with Tourism Fernie, with proceeds supporting the Coal Creek Heritage Society, Fernie Trails Alliance, and Sparwood Trails Alliance through trail-dedicated donations from every registration.
“Fernie is known worldwide for its trails, its mountain culture, and its community spirit,” added McConnell. “We’re here to build an event that riders return to year after year — an experience that showcases the very best of the Elk Valley.”
Spots are limited, so riders are encouraged to mark their calendars and be ready when registration opens. Launch sale pricing runs from November 12 to December 12, with entry fees set at just $499 and convenient installment payment options available at checkout.
Registration opens November 12 at 9am MST, see the details and register here: ferniesingletrack3.com
Fernie’s most infamous descent is calling again – The Diggler is Back! On Saturday, September 6, the 15th Annual Dirt Diggler DH Fall Classic returns with all the speed, sketch, and glory that’s made it one of the rawest downhill races in British Columbia. Built by local trail legend Derek Bird and celebrated by freeride icons like Rémy Métailler, the Diggler is a full-send tribute to what downhill riding should be—fast, loose, steep, and totally unforgiving.
Starting from the microwave towers atop Morrissey Ridge, the trail plunges over 3,500 feet in just 6.5 kilometres of barely-contained chaos. Riders will thread steep coal dust chutes, rip high-speed singletrack, and charge blind corners with nothing but instinct, brakes, and nerve. It’s not for the casual trail rider—this is DH racing at its gnarliest!
Watch Rémy Métailler shred Fernie’s Dirt Diggler with the legendary builder and event organizer – Derek “Birdman” Bird:
.
The race is a pure grassroots affair, run by volunteers who know every turn and rut. The vibe is raw, authentic, and unapologetically downhill. No timing chips. No pampering. Just you, your bike, the ridge, and a ticking clock. This is where reputations are earned, lines are crossed, and legends get their stripes.
Registration is now open and limited to riders who’ve pre-ridden and survived the Diggler. No day-of entries. A valid Fernie Trails Alliance membership is required, and full-face helmets, pads, and a serious downhill bike are mandatory. Expect rugged 4×4 shuttles to the start, cold beverages and eats at the finish, and the kind of après vibe only a proper dirtbag DH race can deliver.
There are prizes for the fastest men and women, custom race plates, and that elusive one-minute window where it all has to come together. But more than that, you’ll earn your place in Fernie bike lore by showing up and dropping in.
The Diggler is back. Are you ready to throw down?
