The Fernie Ski & Board Film Fest has announced its 2026 films, bringing Teton Gravity Research and Matchstick Productions back to the big screen at Knox on 2nd on Saturday, November 14.

Fernie’s unofficial launch to winter brings skiers and riders together for a night of big mountain films, prizes, food, Fernie beer and plenty of snow-season stoke.

This year’s Film Fest features two of the most anticipated ski films of the season — Teton Gravity Research’s Actually, It Is Rocket Science and Matchstick Productions’ The Way Out.

Actually, It Is Rocket Science — Teton Gravity Research

TGR returns with its 31st annual ski film, Actually, It Is Rocket Science, following some of the world’s best skiers as they turn the mountains into a laboratory and every line into an experiment.

The film travels through Bute Inlet, British Columbia; Haines, Alaska; Japan; Finland; Andorra; Montana; Jay Peak, Vermont; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

With a tongue-in-cheek look at the physics behind pushing what is possible, the athletes dissect big mountain lines, massive gaps, transitions, speed, gravity and consequence.

Different mountains, snowpacks and approaches — but the same question remains: is it rocket science?

The Way Out — Matchstick Productions

Matchstick Productions returns with its 34th annual ski film, The Way Out, an action-packed celebration of skiing, mountain culture and the people who build their lives around snow.

The film travels from Alaskan spine lines and deep Japanese powder to Whistler, the Swiss Alps and some of British Columbia’s best powder destinations.

The BC athlete lineup includes Mark Abma, Chris Rubens, Eric Hjorleifson, Logan Pehota, Lucy Leishman, Marcus Goguen, Janelle Yip and Fernie’s own Dylan Siggers.

For Fernie skiers, having Siggers on the big screen makes this year’s MSP film particularly worth watching.

Big Screen. Big Sound. Big Stoke.

Both films will be presented on a large-format screen with professional image and sound. Fresh pizza, popcorn, craft beer from Fernie Brewing Co. and other refreshments will keep things rolling between films.

Win Big. Ride Bigger.

The Fernie Ski & Board Film Fest has built a reputation for exceptional prizing and swag, with attendees walking away with catskiing trips, skis, outerwear and more.

Support the Fernie Volunteer Ski Patrol

All proceeds from the Film Fest support the Fernie Volunteer Ski Patrol. Each winter, its volunteers provide more than 400 days of patrol service in Fernie and Elkford.
