The Fernie Ski and Board Film Festival sells out every November to a stoked audience of skiers and boarders celebrating the coming winter season. Last nights event was another winner for everyone!
The Fernie Ski & Board Film Festival (FSBFF) is a major fundraiser for the Rocky Mountain Zone Canadian Ski Patrol as a means of raising funds from the public to assist in the delivery of services. Funds raised support training resources and rescue equipment for the volunteer ski patrollers. Every year 40 volunteer CSP patrollers provide advanced first aid care at throughout the Elk Valley.
Dan Savage, FSBFF event organizer, commented, “The years top ski and board films delivered an evening of ‘oohs and aws’! The volly patrol sold pizza, popcorn and cold beverages throughout the evening and the sponsors delivered amazing prizing. I think expectations were exceeded.”
The great prizing and 2 for 1 FAR lift ticket vouchers for everyone attending added to the celebration!
Every year the Film Fest awards “Best Film” and “Peoples Choice” accolades and this years film entries set a high standard. Teton Gravity Research (TGR) “Riding High Again ” was chosen by the organizers as “Best Film” and the audiences “Peoples Choice” was awarded to Matchstick Production (MSP) “The Land of Giants”. Congratulations to all involved in producing these amazing films.
Riding High Again defies all odds – to bring together a crew of passionate riders for a full-length feature film – and celebrate what matters most: a bomber squad, rowdy soundtrack, and pure unadulterated riding action. In a world, where the snowboard corporatocracy cares more about the next Instagram swipe, TGR has teamed up with legendary snowboard film director, Mike Hatchett, and do the impossible.
The Land of Giants is the story of man vs. mountain, a concept that has captured imaginations for centuries. MSP flipped the script and took a closer look at the mountains themselves. The film explores the most iconic mountains on Earth. From the Fjords of Norway to the spines of Alaska, we will get to know and understand the canvas that creates the most mind-melting moments in skiing.
The FSBFF thank our amazing sponsors for making this event possible: Gearhub Sports, Commit, Fernie Alpine Resort, Teck, Parastone Developments, Island Lake Catskiing, TC Energy, Surerus Murphy, Fernie Wilderness Adventures, Fernie Brewing Co, the Great Northern Powder Guides, Eldho’s Your Independent Grocer, Fernie Distillers, the Bridge Bistro and Komatsu.
And a big thank you to those who attended and supported the event…mark the date for next year, same time-same place!
Have a great snow season…
