The Fernie Ski & Board Film Festival was sold out this past Saturday night as Fernie’s skiers and boarders were celebrating the coming snow season!
The event is a fundraiser for the Canadian Ski Patrol. Last winter the volunteer members provided 4000hrs of volunteer patrol services in Fernie and Elkford and they appreciate the support. The Film Fest was held at the Fernie Community Centre following the FAST Ski Swap, a fundraiser for the youth ski racers.
Last years event was cancelled due to the pandemic and this years event proceed cautiously adhering to BC Health requirements. Everyone attending was required to show proof of vaccination and wear masks, and the capacity of the Community Centre was reduced.
Dan Savage, event organizer, commented, “Having both events on the same weekend really stokes skiers and boarders for the coming season! Buying ski gear followed by watching talented athletes perform in the world’s most esthetic locations is a great combination.”
Every year the Film Fest awards “Best Film” and “People Choice” accolades and this years films set a very high standard. Matchstick Productions “The Stomping Grounds” was chosen by the organizers as “Best Film” and by the audience also favoured it as the “People Choice”. Congratulations to Scott Gaffney and the athletes for producing this stunning ski film and winning both awards. The other films included “Tales From Cascadia” by Blank Collective and
“Roots” by Faction Redbull.
No Film Fest is complete without door offers and great prizes from sponsors. Fernie Alpine Resort provided all attendees with a 2 for 1 lift ticket voucher and gift cards. Fernie Wilderness Adventures and the Great Northern Powder Guides each provided a day off snowcat sking. Gearhub Sports provided a pair of K2 Mindbender skis, a beautiful Montane puffy and provided a coupon code “21SKIFEST10” offering everyone an extra 10% off anything online, no exclusions, and can be used for sale items. It expires On November 23rd.
Teck, Parastone and the Fernie Hotel completed the sponsors and the ski patrol thank all sponsors for their support and generosity. They also extend a thank you to all those who attended and look forward to seeing you next year – same time, same place.
Have a great snow season!
