Most in town are familiar with local folk legends Shred Kelly and their upbeat, folk tunes. The band has gained notoriety not only across the province but nationwide, as they are currently on a cross Canada tour. Solidifying the band’s Stoke-folk popularity was their selection in the Peak Performance Project. The program listed its Top 12 emerging bands in British Columbia to participate in its series of showcases, workshops and performances.

The Peak Performance Project is administered by Music BC and funded by The Peak Radio Station. In its six year run, it has provided $5.2 million in funding for support of emerging BC artists. While helping to develop and promote local talent, the program helps to expose the province’s ever thriving music scene. “The twelve artists from BC will receive an intensive, one week training program in the music business, live performance, songwriting, marketing and promotion.” The workshops are instructed by the industry’s top professionals and performers. Monetary awards are supplied with a base of $5,000 for career development as well as large sum prizes for the top 3 performers.

Following their highly successful, sold-out show at the community center in March, Shred Kelly has a packed line-up of shows continuing over the summer. From the Keloha festival in Kelowna, the Otalith festival in Tofino to dates in Canada’s largest cities, the band really puts Fernie on the map. Check out Shred Kelly on their August 8th peformance at The Northern Bar and Grill for the Wapiti Music Festival after-party.
