The Urban Settler, founded in 1998 in North Vancouver B.C. is owned by Fernie resident Paul Arcoite. The company specializes in designing and building furniture and architectural millwork from reclaimed wood, metal, and other salvaged materials. After 16 years in the business, supplying the hospitality industry, design professionals, and specialty retailers across North America, Paul recently opened a home furniture and design shop on Highway 3 in the Fernie Business Centre. “As an entrepreneur, I really wanted to open a business in the community where I live and felt this type of business was really missing here. We have put together a collection of incredible home décor products to create a store that is outstanding, even by big city standards.” says Arcoite.

The Fernie furniture and design shop is a departure from what the company has been so successful with over the years where much of their contracts were with the commercial and hospitality industry. But the location is ideal for Arcoite and his team to access the South Eastern BC and Alberta commercial market. “We are excited to be working with residential clientele and at the same time continue our work with the commercial side of the business from this new location.” explains Arcoite.

The Urban Settler is a family owned Canadian company with operations in North Vancouver and now Fernie, British Columbia. The company began by sourcing, restoring, and re-purposing antiques and vintage furniture and architectural pieces. With the support of a loyal customer base and a demand for local sustainable products, the company grew and evolved into an important source and producer of reclaimed furniture and millwork. Products include custom made dining tables and chairs, bar stools, and solid wood millwork including; reclaimed tongue and groove fir flooring, wood wainscot and wall panels, beams and fireplace mantles. The Urban Settler’s Fernie location is a one-stop shop for custom wood furniture, reclaimed materials, sofas, bedding, stunning home decor and one of a kind vintage finds.

The new Fernie shop hours are Tuesday through Sunday 12 pm to 5:30 pm, or by appointment.
