The upcoming May 1-2 weekend at the Lake Louise Ski Area promises to be one big party festival as the 2009-2010 ski season comes to a classic close at Canada’s Favourite Ski Area.

Lake Louise currently has a settled snow base of 140 cms in the back bowls and more than 70 runs are still available to ski and ride. Fresh powder could also be available for the final weekend as current weather forecasts call for periods of snow throughout the week.

“The VW Spring Episode promises to be an amazing wrap-up weekend,” said marketing director John Ross. “There’s still plenty of great skiing to be had and we’ve lined up an incredible array of musical acts and special events to keep everyone entertained. So bring out the sunscreen, cruise the mountain, savor a tasty BBQ burger, and enjoy all the sights and smells of a beautiful spring day in the Rocky Mountains”.

Free musical acts at the base of Whiskyjack Lodge.

SMALLTOWN DJS – Saturday, May 1 (1:30-3:30 pm)
If your ears work, you will be guaranteed to have fun at a Smalltown DJs gig.
The Canadian duo’s uncanny ability to make crowds feel like school kids at recess stems naturally from their focus on maximizing fun for themselves.

SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT – Saturday, May 1 (4-5 pm)
Edmonton’s Shout Out Out Out Out emerged from the frozen north as an all-rhythm section, high-kicking, collection of local rock stalwarts, diving headfirst into the world of electronic music. A formidable force and live spectacle from the get-go, with two drummers, four bass players, and an entirely appropriate mountain of analog synthesizers.

DJ KATO – Sunday, May 2 (11 -2:30pm)

YOUNG ONES – Sunday, May 2 (3:00-4:00pm)
Newcomers to Alberta stages, indie rock four-piece Young Ones have been grabbing the reins of the good-vibes sleigh this year. The band is bringing its mix of nocturnal post-punk (think the National or Interpol) and gnarled Wolf Parade-like grooves to every kind of party they can sink their teeth into.

Special Events
Lake Louise will also be a buzz with a wide variety of special events.
Saturday’s events include the annual Shop Showdown, a slopestyle competition between ski shops, and the Kokanee Meltdown, featuring the Kokanee Sasquatch and the lovely Kokanee Girls.
Sunday’s closing day activities include events such as What the Huck!?, a low impact Snowboard event designed for anyone who loves to do the board, and the always entertaining Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Other special activities on the mountain include:
1) Face Painting, Bouncy Tents, and Magic Shows will be provided in the Kids Zone located in the Minute Maid Wilderness Adventure Park.
 2) Demos and Sampling – Our partners from Burton Snowboards, Planet Foods and Dewalt will be out in full force with TONS of free demos and product!
3) Appleton’s Beach – Come relax in the Appleton’s beach! Kick back in a lounge chair with a delicious Appleton’s Estate Rum Slushie.
