When one of BC’s most influential extreme mountain bikers says that Fernie has his favourite trail in the world right now, mountain bikers everywhere will take notice.

Mountain Bike BC sent Rémy Métailler on a tour of BC bike towns and this is what he has to say about Fernie’s Dirt Diggler, “No joke, this is my favourite trail in the world right now!”

Dirt Diggler was built 15 years ago by Fernie local Derek Bird and he has been hosting an annual DH Mountain Bike race on the trail ever since. Derek got to ride Digger with Rémy and commented, “This was a pretty special evening for me and Dirt Diggler. Never in a million years did I ever think this trail would be so popular. I remember many days in the beginning sitting by myself on the side of the mountain wondering if anyone would ever ride it. These days with the advances in bike technology and rider experience of some mountain bikers it’s popular. I’m proud to say that we’ve been sending it for over 15 years now.”

Rémy Métailler is 28 years old and originally from France. In 2013 he followed his passion for Mountain Biking and skiing and moved to Whistler. This decision paid off as two years later he got invited to the biggest MTB-event on earth, the RedBull Rampage. In the following years he was invited three more times.

Remy’s Youtube channel is about Mountain Biking. Riding videos, the craziest GoPro footage, trail previews but also pro tips, settings advice and more to become a better mountain biker!

I’ve been riding Dirt Diggler from the very first year and know it well. It always scares me and it should, this is not a trail for the everybody. Be safe and ride another day!
