The City of Fernie is excited to announce that the Outdoor Community Rink will officially open on Monday, December 17, 2018, from daylight to 10pm.

A big thanks to the volunteers who have worked diligently to prepare the ice surface for opening. Their time and commitment are greatly appreciated.

The Outdoor Rink is an nhl-size ice surface located next to the Fernie Aquatic Centre at 250 Pine Ave.

The ice-surface is free for the public to use and is open daily, weather dependent, from daylight until 10pm.

For private bookings, please contact our Community Services Department at 250.423.2245. All bookings must be made with 48 hours notice.

Schedule for 2018/19 Season

DAILY USE IS AVAILABLE DURING THE FOLLOWING TIMES:

WEEKDAYS
10:00 am -11:00 am Maintenance as required

11:00 am – 12:00 pm Parent & Tot / Open Ice *NO STICKS*

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm General Public Skate / Private Bookings

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm General Public Skate / School Bookings

3:00 pm – 3:30 pm Flooding & Ice Maintenance (estimated time)

4:00 pm – 6:00 pm General Public Skate

6:00 pm – 10:00 pm General Public Skate/Private Bookings

WEDNESDAYS
4:00 pm – 5:00 pm Youth Shinny (12 years and under)

5:00 pm – 6:00 pm Youth Shinny (13 – 17 years old)

8:30 pm – 9:30 pm Adult Shinny (18 years +)

SATURDAY – SUNDAYS
10:00 am -11:00 am Maintenance as required

Daylight – 10 pm General Public Skate / Private Bookings
3:00 pm – 3:30 pm Flooding & Ice Maintenance (estimated time)

Lights for Outdoor Rink will be shut off at 10:00 pm

If the flag is GREEN, Rink is Open, and Skating is Allowed.

If the flag is RED, Rink is Closed, and Skating is NOT Allowed.

These flags are located on the Zamboni Shed and are visible from the parking lot.

Code of Conduct
– Skate at your own risk
– Use only when ice is safe and in good condition
– Please follow posted schedule
– Helmets are strongly recommended
– Children 12 and under should be supervised
– Please clean up after yourself (no glass bottles, no food on the ice)
– No unauthorized motor vehicles in the park or on the ice surface
– No slap shots
– No alcoholic beverages or smoking permitted

Please assist us by shoveling the snow off the ice whenever required, shovels on site.

Ice programming may be affected due to condition of ice, watch for flags. Flooding and Maintenance requirements may impact booking times.
