Fernie’s new Polar Peak Chair, the first chair to the top ridge of the Lizard Range, has been controversial to say the least. This lift has the credentials to take Fernie Alpine Resort to the top of the ski resort marketable statistics in the Canadian Rockies, and the views are absolutely incredible.

The question brought forward by a lot of mountain folk was whether the Peak Chair would improve the skiing? Would it be a hazard for beginners, would it ever be open, would the skiing be worth the ride, etc… And lots of mountain folk believed that the lift was built for the Pro Patrol to manage the avalanche hazard.

In my opinion the lift scores a 10 on all accounts! Today I took eight rides to Polar Peak and had great runs every ride. The scenery is great and the lift is helping with avalanche control, however the skiing is also excellent! And yes, I lapped the Polar Peak Chair with a couple of top to bottom runs off the Saddles. It was an epic day and I hope that all of you have a Polar Peak experience like mine real soon.
