Park Place Lodge

Two words: legendary powder. And the legend is real once again as Fernie is blessed with lots of early season snow.  Locals have been enjoying the early season by hiking the mountain to track up the abundant freshies.  Five alpine bowls, acres of beautiful glades, and all the steeps you can handle best describe where the freshies lie.

Fernie Alpine Resort has announced its new season improvements. This past summer resort staff were busy brush cutting and grooming runs with a D9, opening steep terrain and clearing way for even more gladed tree skiing.  The skiing and riding will be better than ever!

A report on the specific changes – straight from the desk of Robin Siggers, FAR On-Hill Manager, is as follows:

See map: Pink are brushed areas light yellow are D9 dozer work. Huge brushing program this summer at Fernie. Snake Ridge ten acres, Boomerang Ridge, Deep Space, Sunnyside wall to wall, Bow and Arrow trees, all upper Lizard Bowl runs, Easter Bowl, Freeway, Window Chutes, all brush cut. Stagleap, Decline and Skydive cleaned up,  Currie Creek and Lower Tom’s brush cut, The 1,2,3’s cleared from Tresspass Trail to the top of White Pass that  will be awesome, Upper high line  cleared to make way for winch grooming. We had a D9 dozer on the mountain for seven weeks and dozed another groomed run out of the bottom of Currie Bowl, as well we dozed a great groomer that will bypass the switchback on Falling Star , the dozer also greatly improved the Deep Sea providing a much improved groomable ski out from Lower Timber Bowl. We improved the Bambi off the Deer Chair for beginners and tuned up the exit from Power Trip for the kids. We added material at the bottom of the Bear Chair to improve the loading area early season and added fill here and there on the lower slopes to smooth out those runs. Hats off to the brush cutters Cable, Mireille, and their crews this summer – they have outdone themselves. The Griz seems impressed as we already have over a meter of snow in the alpine.
