1. Curse Lifting Ceremonies Celebration

Come join the celebration of Fernie’s past with the 50th anniversary of the curse lifting ceremonies. Legend has it that a curse was laid on the town after William Fernie reneged on his promise to marry a local princess. The festivities include presentations, plays, music, dance and, of course, refreshments at various locations around town.

2. 5 Peaks Fernie

The 5 Peaks mountain running series makes its stop in Fernie this Saturday, which combines notorious single track with some wider trails. The race includes the 13 km Enduro course, 7km Sport course and 3km Kid’s course, all start and finish at Fernie Alpine Resort. Awards and refreshments take place after the race at approximately 11:00am for the top finishers. Registration deadline is August 14th at midnight.

3. Summer Socials

Enjoy a Sunday afternoon perusing local shops, cafes and restaurants during the weekly Summer Socials. This week’s events tie in with the annual curse lifting ceremonies featuring a play presentation at the Fernie museum as well as a city wide scavenger hunt, vendors and various activities for all ages. Come down to share in a piece of Fernie’s history.

4. Camps at Fernie Alpine Resort

The Women’s Intermediate/ Advanced Bike Camp and the Kid’s “Howl at the Moon” Campout are both taking place this weekend at Fernie Alpine Resort. The women’s bike camp is a two-day installment that features several skills clinics as well as bike maintenance and instructional trail rides. The kid’s campout is an overnight camp at Lost Boys Café on Saturday night. Special campout programming is accompanied by Saturday night dinner, smores and snacks and Sunday morning breakfast. For ages 8 and up.

5. Bayne’s Lake Farmers Market

Just a short drive from Fernie, the weekly farmers market offers everything from local produce, arts and crafts to tasty home-made treats. Fernie local businesses such as The Loaf also have booths set up. A perfect Saturday morning stop on the way to the lake.

Fernie Enduro

Next Saturday is one of Fernie’s most fun single day events. The Fernie Enduro route has been confirmed, with the event staged in Cedar Valley from the Island Lake Lodge. The race is a pure enduro with only descents timed. Registration will be held at Park Place Lodge on Friday, August 22nd from 5 – 8pm. All entries include a race jersey, 2 fully stocked check-points, on site first aid, awards, BBQ and refreshments from Fernie Brewing Company. The race will commence at 9am sharp from the Island Lake Lodge parking lot.
