Text by Kirk Oulette,

Three's a charm. Yes, the third weekend in a row for fresh snow fall in Fernie. It started snowing Friday afternoon and into Saturday depositing 14cm of light snow. And what a better time for it to snow when thousands of visitors flocked to Fernie this weekend. Saskatchewan and Alberta plates where abound and it seemed the town was packed to capacity. Not to mention busses of students on break.

Conditions were hard pack in the shade and soft in the sun on the groomers. Mid mountain was great for cruising as long as you kept a good eye out for the pizza carvers. Lower mountain to the lifts got congested, but that's a local Fernie perspective. Skiers from the UK laugh at us when we complain about lift lines.

Standing at the entrance to Currie Bowl I could see tracks in every direction. A boot pack under the cornice up to the ladder to the high traverse into Currie Bowl seemed to be getting alot of action. Polar Peek gridlocked with 20-30 hikers at times all with the same idea of untracked fresh lines.

On a danger alert issue. Don't bring you kids in the terrain park, because it’s not a playground park. And stopping on the landing of the jump is probably the worst place you could be when somebody is blind to you and is 20 feet in the air. The entrance sign says it all, just read it. Hopefully lesson learned.

So if three’s a charm what is four? Long term forecast is 40% chance of flurries for Sunday. You might have to take next Monday off.

Just started to snow!

Pizza, French Fries, Pizza, French Fries, Pizza, French Fries...

Crowded Fernie style. Polar Peek in the distance.
