How things can change in just a few days. If you have not already heard, it dumped in Fernie dropping close to 50 centimeters of the white stuff on town and the ski resort. The temperature was just perfect for great bonding as well so the lower slopes have been covered with a good carpet of dense snow.

Up top it was just powder heaven with face shots and snow riding up onto your thighs. It was pretty incredible how amped everyone was. I spent most of the day on the Timber Bowl side, sliding through the singles line and up onto the mountain for another glorious run through the snow. I was expecting to hit lots of hard, icy spots but there were few to be found.

I always get a kick seeing the masses congregate for the opening of Curry Bowl. If you have never seen or experienced it, it is a sight to behold. There are literally hundreds of people waiting with nervous energy for the patrol to pull the rope away and flip the signs.  When they finally do, it is chaos. I tend to just wait now until the first wave clears out of the way. For me, the anxiety of trying to stay ahead of the masses while trying to get first tracks takes away from the whole powder experience. Fun to watch, but I will pick through the remains with a smile on my face knowing I am not going to get killed by some ravenous pack clawing from behind.

Today I had probably the best turns of the season so far. It was pretty fun.

It looks like the sun is going to shine for the rest of the week now so expect some powder remains to go with the sun. I think when they get the groomers out on the lower slopes that the hill is going to be in terrific shape.
