If you went skiing on Saturday you are a braver soul than I. Temperatures dipped down to –35 Celsius on Saturday and while the day was incredibly beautiful there was no way I was going to slip into some plastic boots just to say I went skiing that day. Nope.

And incredibly beautiful it was. Not a cloud in the sky, snow crystals shining like little diamonds along the river and that really cool sound of snow squeaking beneath your feet. I did manage to go for a walk downtown so I did get to experience something other than bad television that day.

Sunday saw overcast skies, some snow and milder (but still chilly) temperatures. Take a lesson from me. If you notice the weekend before that your ski bindings are loose, do not wait until the day you want to go skiing to tighten them. You just might find that the screws ripped right out of the ski and you need to take them to the shop for repairs. I would say lesson learned but I have noticed I tend to be a slow learner when it comes to things like that.

With no skis, I grabbed my snowboard and gave that a shot. Not good. I trashed my ankle this September and it still hasn’t healed enough to snowboard on. I did make an extra run on the Deer Chair though as low angle runs seemed to be pretty okay on it. Nice grooming on the lower slopes but there still seems to be some rocks rolling around.

That is all bound to change though as it looks like a big system is rolling in this week. I am hoping it stays cool enough to keep the white stuff white but it is calling for temperatures above freezing so it might turn to… I cannot even say it. But even if it does I think the upper mountain will still be white and deep.

The big freestyle comp is this coming weekend as well so if you get a chance cruise by the Bear to watch the bumps or over to the Deer to check out the aerials.

And the photos this week? Well let me just say that sometimes the most interesting thing around is that big wheel that gets you to the top of the mountain.
