Brrrrr. It has been a bit on the chilly side the last week. Temperatures have been anywhere from the mid minus teens to twenties and frostbite has been a serious concern as there has been a bit of wind as well. We did not get all the snow that was forecast though. I am guessing the cold Alberta air kept it at bay. I heard the West Kootenays got dumped on with 40 cm of champagne powder. Sigh. Oh well.
Still, skiing was pretty good on Sunday. We went for a cross country ski in the morning and I must say that the trails are in fabulous shape. Nice and smooth with nothing poking through. In the afternoon it was up the mountain we went and it was dead. It was really nice to ski right onto the lifts, and then right into the yurt so I could warm up my toes. Actually that only happened once and I then realized why there were no lift lines. Everyone was in the yurt.

Conditions are pretty variable with nice soft snow intermixed with some gnarly icy sections. Aim for the piles and you should do okay. The runs that are groomed were a blast for high speed ripping and my favourite gully in Cedar Bowl was nice and soft and brought a great big smile to my face.
Forecast is much the same for the week, a few flurries with continuing cold temperatures. If you go out, bundle up and keep those ears and cheeks covered.
