The town is vibrating with energy as anticipation for opening day builds.
Max Brown, a winter visitor from Australia, is practicing airing behind his parents Royal Hotel. He is one of many families and individuals that flock to Fernie in the winter to enjoy their passions. Most are in awe of how the sky can dump snow for many days.
Cyclists mix with vehicles on Victoria Avenue as winter equipment needs are being serviced by local shops. The bars are busy with snow-worshipers celebrating the 82cm / 32in snowfall during the past 5 days. Everyone is looking for an excuse to escape town and participate in opening day.
The atmosphere is captivating to say the least and yes I to will be at Fernie Alpine Resort Friday morning waiting for the first ride of the season to blast down Curry Bowl in thigh deep powder. For myself and many others this is what life is about.
I hope to see you on the mountain, if not today, very soon. Another season is about to begin!
