Its Wednesday and another 15 cm or so fell overnight. It was quite breezy when I got to the parking lot so I decided to try the old side first as it generally is not affected by the wind as bad as the new side. Well it was but that was not a bad thing.
My first run was down Cedar Bowl and as I was dancing along the edge of my favourite gully I thought to myself, "This is just like heli skiing." The mountain was absolutely dead and nobody was in site. When I got down to the Haul Back lift I discovered why. The lift wasn't running. Oh well, a quick five minute boot hike and I was back in action. A bit of sweat is still cheaper than a helicopter for heli quality turns.
The rest of the morning was spent in the Boomerang area with Eddie B. We had a blast skiing the same run over and over. Each time down the wind filled in the lines making it baby bottom smooth again. Actually, the best run in Boomerang was our last one and we did it right down the gut or Chow Main as it is often referred to as. The snow was just like a silky smooth blanket. It was total hero snow and I felt so comfortable ripping through it.
But lets not forget Cedar Ridge. Mmmmm. The twinkle in Sean's eye a few runs earlier should have clued us into how nice it was in there but we were just too stoked with Boomerang to care. Once we decided to hit the Ridge we were blown away at how untracked and deep it was. Right off the lift and into the trees and untracked snow. Well a little tracked but far from shredded. Probably the sweetest turns of the day.
Oh yeah, the sun was shining and the temp was hovering around zero. Can it get any better?
The five day forecast, which will pull us into the last weekend before Christmas, is looking kind of mixed. A bit of sun, bit of cloud and maybe a few flurries. Temperatures are looking to be a bit above zero so lets hope it stays cool enough to keep the flurries white. Get your Christmas shopping done early and hit the slopes before the holiday crowds get here.
See you on the slopes.
